Festive Cornwall

7 ways to have a fun-filled festive period in Cornwall
Posted on Nov 23, 2016

The Christmas period is nearly upon us once again.

A time to indulge in fantastic foods, relax in front of the fire, scamper around gathering last minute gifts - or simply enjoy time with loved ones.

We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite festive activities taking place across Cornwall this Christmas, for the entire family to enjoy.

Land’s End attractions

From Tuesday 27th to Saturday 31st December, our interactive family attractions will be open once again.

Visit Shaun and his farmyard friends in our incredible life-sized Shaun the Sheep Experience. Perfect for any age, old or young, you’ll be able to see some of the sets used in the Shaun the Sheep movie, draw your own Shaun the Sheep cartoons, and feel like a film star in your own green-screen scene with Shaun.

Guests can also look forward to immersing themselves in Arthurian legend, using the latest interactive technology and special effects to conjure a magically scary world, as you attempt to conquer Merlin’s challenge, in Arthur's Quest.

Angarrack Christmas Lights

This quaint Cornish village comes to life every year with a marvellous display of festive lights to lift spirits for all.

Officially turned on by the Mayor of Hayle at 7pm on Saturday 3rd December, the lights will be on every evening until the 5th January 2017.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to walk through the village to get the full experience. Be sure to keep an eye out for the nativity scene, Santa and his reindeers, and all of the lights representing the 12 days of Christmas.

Tom Bawcock’s Eve

Tom Bawcock’s Eve is one of West Cornwall’s most eagerly anticipated annual events. Celebrated on the 23rd December, it’s a festival to commemorate the efforts of local fisherman Tom Bawcock, who lifted famine in the village many years ago.

During the festival, Star Gazy Pie is eaten (a fish, egg and potato pie with the addition of protruding mackerel), a lantern procession takes place, which coincides with the world famous harbour lights. You will also be able to see a re-enactment of Tom Bawcock’s Story, as well as join in with some traditional carol singing on the beach.

This festival is one of the highlights in the Cornish calendar, serving as a timely reminder that generosity is the best gift someone can give.

Christmas Day Swim

It’s 11am on Christmas morning, who really wants to be indoors eating boxes of Chocolates, or playing with the new toys you got for Christmas?

Instead you can involve yourself in one of Sennen’s wackiest tradition and take the plunge into the fresh and chilly Atlantic Ocean at Sennen beach.

In an event that is growing year-on-year, you can join hundreds of other thrill seekers with this event. Take a quick plunge, before catching up with friends both old and new, whilst wishing everyone you meet a Merry (and chilly!) Christmas.

It’s both a great social event and something unique to tell the family about.

Ice Skating at Eden

A winter classic… Ice Skating.

Enjoy the return of the ice rink at the Eden Project this winter, right through until February 2017 (excluding Christmas Day) – plenty of time to brush up on your bolero.

Ice Skating at Eden is perfect for all ages; with sessions to suit all abilities – and penguin aids to help the very young.

Pantomime at Hall for Cornwall

From the creative team that were responsible for last year’s hit show, comes a brand new adventure… Jack and the Beanstalk.

Running from the 6th – 31st December (…oh yes it is), it’s a fire sure way to end 2016 with a bang.

Join Kenwyne, Aunty Flo, Cousin Jack, and his mum on their adventure as they attempt to save the village from being terrorised by the legendary giant, Cormoran.
